Ministers were today urged to repatriate 60 children of British IS fighters stranded in Syria before winter hits the camps where they are living.
Charities and MPs issued the appeal after the Government announced that a small number of orphaned UK youngsters, stranded unaccompanied in the war-ravaged country, have been removed.
Senior Tory David Davis tweeted: “These children are innocent of any crime. But so are all the other British children in Syrian camps; we should bring these home too, ASAP, before there are any more deaths.”
Alison Griffin from Save The Children said conditions in the camps will worsen rapidly as winter closes in.
She added: “Every child saved is a triumph of compassion in the face of cruelty... there are still as many as 60 British children stranded in appalling conditions... our very real fear is that they won’t all survive to see the spring.”
Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab confirmed the first repatriations of orphaned children, saying it was “the right thing to do.”
