It has been a historic night for Manchester United's academy - both at Old Trafford and elsewhere.
That is because United interim manager Ralf Rangnick handed opportunities to the likes of Anthony Elanga, Teden Mengi, Shola Shoretire, Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage during the 1-1 draw against Young Boys in the UEFA Champions League.
Elanga was handed his first senior start of the season, partnering goal-scorer Mason Greenwood up front, whilst Mengi, Shoretire, Iqbal and Savage stepped off the bench during the second half, as Rangnick rotated his pack and awarded opportunities to as many players as possible.
Whilst United's future stars tried to prove their worth to Rangnick at Old Trafford, former United youngster Angel Gomes netted his first Champions League goal and claimed an assist to help Lille beat Wolfsburg 3-1 away from home.
Gomes' brilliance helped the French club secure their place in the last-16 of the Champions League as Group G winners, beating Red Bull Salzburg to top spot.
Gomes, who joined United's academy at the age of just six-years-old, left the club in June 2020, after failing to agree terms on a new contract. Despite being linked with a move to Chelsea, he was snapped up by Lille on a five-year deal.
He spent last season on loan at Portuguese side Boavista side last term, but has become a regular fixture for the Ligue 1 outfit this term, racking up 12 appearances in all competitions, with his contributions against Wolfsburg being his first direct goal involvements this term.
Having delivered the goods in the Champions League, his heroics have caught the attentions of a handful of United supporters. Below, MEN Sport has taken a close look at what some of them have had to say on social media.
As you can see from the messages displayed above, United's supporters have hailed Gomes, but at the same time have, seemingly, felt a little bit disappointed that he could not demonstrate the same talent in United colours.
As well as getting a goal and an assist, Gomes, who only stepped off the bench with 22 minutes left to play, also had 11 touches of the ball, successfully completed six passes and made one key pass.
