'Brilliant' teenager with autism making waves in Miss Junior Teen Great Britain pageant

A teenager with autism has landed a semi-final spot in the prestigious Miss Junior Teen Great Britain pageant.

T’mya Fyffe, 14, from Thornton has beaten competition from across the UK to be named among the semi-finalists in the contest.

The 14-year-old is no stranger to the big stage, having been a contestant on The Voice Kids UK 2019.

She was selected by team will.i.am on the talent show and has since gone on to get involved in charity work, raising money for the likes of the Anna Kennedy Online Autism Charity and Together for Short Lives Charity.

Speaking to the Liverpool ECHO, her mum, Eve Bradshaw said: “It’s a fantastic achievement to get to the semi-final. She’s brilliant and amazing.

“She was at the Little Miss Teen Merseyside and she got to the final, and although she didn’t win she absolutely loved the experience.

“Raising money for charity and other various tasks have helped build her confidence and stuff like that.”

T’mya’s journey growing up hasn’t been easy, having been diagnosed with autism as a child.

Her mum though couldn’t be more proud of her daughter who continues to push herself despite the hurdles she faces.

Eve added: “She struggles socially but if you put her on stage she loves it. She just gets nervous in one to one situations and that’s why I take my hat off to her because I know I couldn’t do it, and it’s all she wants to do. We just support her in any way we can.

“It’s absolutely massive being able to get up on stage like she did on The Voice Kids. Singing and expressing herself the way she does is amazing because she struggles with certain aspects of life like school and friendship.

“Put her in a situation like that in front of thousands of people though and she flourishes.”

The grand final of Miss Teen Great Britain will be held in 2022 in Blackpool.

T’mya has said that it would mean a lot to her to be able to represent her hometown and win the Miss Teen Great Britain crown.

Her mum added: “She’s just going to go and enjoy the experience and the competition. She even had people messaging her on social media saying they’ve got autism and she’s made them realise they can do what she does."
