Brilliant photos capture London's colourful and quirky last remaining launderettes

There is something incredibly iconic about the setting of a launderette, once a thriving hub of community, gossip and mundane life on most high streets.

Alas, they are now a dying breed and, these days, the capital is home to just 462 exactly, all of which have been visited by Londoner and photographer Joshua Blackburn. He has captured some of the quirkiest and most colourful in his new book, Launderama.

From Wimbledon to Tottenham, the photographs capture the essence of some of the capital's most iconic areas.

Some are very retro, like the launderette below located in South-East London's New Cross.

Others perfectly capture the community spirit of the institution.
