Brilliant Paul Dummett's Instagram answer to Steve Bruce's critics, as he admits NUFC had 'point to prove'

Paul Dummett has admitted that Newcastle United players had a point to prove at Tottenham Hotspur.

United had performed poorly at Norwich City last week and their desire had been questioned in the build-up to the game.

Dummett had also been accused of causing unrest behind the scenes with comments after the clash at Carrow Road about the warm up . But he referenced those with a wry Instagram post holding the man of the match award which stated: "Warm ups alright today."

And he came out fighting in the capital, he said: “We had to work hard as a team and we did that from the start.

“Everyone has worked hard from the team.

“It’s a difficult place to come but we have had to dig in together. Everyone stuck together, we put in a top performance.

“Hopefully we can push forward now. It’s only three points, there is still a long road to go but it’s a start.”

And speaking about the aftermath of Norwich, Dummett said: “We had something to prove.

“It was not good enough last week.

“We have talked about it and knew we had to change it.

“We know we have to work together and we have done that. It’s a credit to everyone involved. If you switch off and wake one mistake that could lead to you losing.

“We have had to put in a lot of work, it was very tough.”

Dummet though feels that the pressure absorbed by players this week was typical of life in Toon.

Speaking to BBC Match of the Day he said: “Being a club like Newcastle, you always have that pressure but we have a good bunch of player and we will always work hard to get the performances and the points.

“We came up with a game plan from start to finish and we managed to not give them any chances.”
