Brilliant new Diego Maradona mural unveiled near Aviva Stadium

A brilliant new mural of Diego Maradona which has been painted in south Dublin is already inspiring local youngsters.

Artist Chelsea Jacobs painted the mural near the Aviva Stadium in Havelock Square, just months after the legendary footballer’s passing.

The Argentinian star’s legacy left a lasting impact around the world, especially his performance at the 1986 World Cup when he led his country to glory.

Local boy Johnny Figo, ⁦who plays under 10's for St Josephs Boys/Girls AFC, has be seen practising his Maradona moves in memory of the heroic footballer.

The mural is only a stone's throw away from the home of Irish football, where the legend made an appearance as a 19-year-old in a friendly between Ireland and Argentina in 1980.

The Aviva Stadium, which is now the home of soccer, overlooks the new mural of Diego in the distinctive blue and white stripes of the South American giants.

Alongside it are the words "to see the ball, to run after it, make me the happiest man in the world," a quote attributed to Maradona which sums up his passion for his sport.
