'Brilliant': Ian Evatt praises Bolton Wanderers midfielder for performance in Walsall loss

Ian Evatt praised Bolton Wanderers midfielder George Thomason for his performance in the defeat against Walsall.

The teenager was handed his first Trotters start last weekend in the 6-3 loss at the University of Bolton Stadium against Port Vale.

During that match, Thomason was brought off early in the second half after the Trotters conceded their fifth goal of that game.

After that encounter, Evatt said he 'felt sorry' for Thomason and admitted the teen had not done anything wrong but that it 'wasn't a game for him'.

Against the Saddlers, Evatt kept faith with the same side which lost to the Valiants and it meant Thomason lined up in central midfield once more alongside Bolton skipper Antoni Sarcevic.

Thomason put in a decent performance in the defeat against Walsall, with Evatt praising the youngster for his response after being susbsituted in the previous match, which he said the teenager took 'personally'.

And the Bolton boss highlighted the youngster's willingness to take responsibility with the ball and played passes that he believes not many other midfielders in the Wanderers squad can make.

He said: "To be fair, George was brilliant. I’m so pleased for that kid because last week he really took it personally but he came into the team and that happened.

"We had to pick him up and we’ve shown the faith and belief in him to come and do it again today.

"I think at times he showed some real classy touches and I’m really pleased the way he took responsibility with the ball.

"A fantastic pass I think for Peter (Kioso) in the first half, there’s not many of our midfield players that can play passes like that.

"George is special and he’s got a very bright future."
