'Brilliant guy with a big heart' devastated loved ones pay tribute to young footballer who died suddenly

Tributes are pouring in for a young former footballer who suddenly.

Martyn McGuigan,from Calderbank, Lanarkshire , passed away on Sunday aged 30.

The striker, known as Gweegs, leaves behind a heartbroken family who shared the tragic news through a public post on social media .

Taking to Martyn's own Facebook page they wrote: "Sadly Martyn passed away on Sunday, January 5. 

"Martyn's body will be taken to Corpus Christi Church on Thursday,  January 9 at 5:45pm from the house.

"Funeral will be held at the same location on Friday, January 10 at 9:30am and then onto Coltswood Cemetary, Coatbridge.

"Thank you for all your kind words and wishes."

Devastated friends and family paid tribute to the keen footballer who was described as 'a brilliant guy with a big heart'.

One wrote: "A lovely boy.

"Genuine and such a gentleman."

Another added: "RIP Gweegs, what a cracking guy you were.

"Fly high bro."

A third commented: "Martyn was genuinely one of the funniest boys I ever met.

"He will be missed so much by so many people."

And another wrote: "A brilliant guy with a big heart.

"He was taken far too soon."

Striker, Martyn once played for Dalziel Football Club.

A representative from the club posted a statement on their official twitter account.

It read: "The club is sad to hear of the death of former player Martyn Mcguigan, Gweegsy, who passed on Sunday aged 30.

"Gweegs was a cracking guy, full of nonsense and excellent striker!

"Thoughts and prayers with his family, he will be missed by all."
