Brilliant footage of Funderland Belfast will take you back through the years

For many of us, the first experience of going to an amusement park - and the thrill of riding a roller coaster for the first time - happened at Funderland Belfast.

A seasonal fun park, Funderland's brilliant rides would rise up through the Belfast skyline for weeks at a time, with thousands attending over that time period.

With theme and amusement parks having been closed for so long, we thought we'd take a look back into what they were like in Belfast a generation ago.

Footage unearthed by Northern Ireland Screen is absolutely certain to bring thrill seekers back to their childhood.

The film footage below shows the full range of magnificent rides in Funderland in 1985, as well as a clip of a woman who was part of the event, who had trained to swim with man-eating sharks.

Other clips show the then Lord Mayor Nigel Dodds on the Condor ride in 1991.

More footage shows what Funderland was like in 2005, when a new dinosaur ride arrived for Funderland, to the delight of the Belfast public.

Take a look at the footage of Funderland here, and see if you can spot any familiar faces!
