Brilliant eight-year-old Bristol City fan scores 500 goals to help others

As England fans celebrated their team’s success, so did an eight-year-old boy from Bristol.

Teddy Mellor has this month completed a charity football challenge, scoring 500 goals to raise money for charity Gympanzees.

The Bristol City fan wanted to raise money to help Gympanzees continue providing their sessions for children and young people with disabilities.

Teddy scored his final goal during half time of England’s football match against Germany last night.

His challenge has raised £1,000 for his chosen charity.

He first attended Gympazees sessions aged five, and the sessions have helped Teddy play and exercise with Cerebral Palsy.

Teddy’s mum Claire Mellor said: “Teddy absolutely loves Gympanzees. We first visited when he was five and it helped him so much.

"Teddy was keen to raise money so that Gympanzees can continue to run their pop up activity centres, helping hundreds of disabled young people and their families. We are so proud of him.”

“Teddy has worked hard to complete his challenge and has often had to keep going despite feeling exhausted after a busy day at school.

"At the beginning, he struggled to kick the ball far enough into the goal - the challenge has really improved his skills.”

She added: “Teddy also really enjoys playing frame football with his friends at the Bristol Frame Football Club.”

Gympanzees are aiming to open the UK’s first fully inclusive leisure and exercise facility that will cater for the needs of the 66,000 children and young people with disabilities who live within an hour of Bristol.

They currently offer pop-up events and lend equipment to families for free, as well as providing online support and resources.
