Isobel Borlase has continued her brilliant form to help lead Australia to a convincing win over Argentina in their FIBA Women's World Cup qualifying clash.

Borlase, named the WNBL's Most Valuable Player after a sizzling season with the Bendigo Spirit, scored 19 points in 16 minutes as the Opals crushed Argentina 91-65 in Turkey on Wednesday (AEDT).

The 21-year-old came off the bench and led all Australian scorers, shooting 6-from-8 from the field, 3-from-5 three-point attempts and 4-from-5 from the line.

Ezi Magbegor dominated at both ends to finish with 16 points and seven rebounds, and Jade Melbourne also impressed with 12 points and three assists.

Magbegor said the Opals were pleased to start the tournament with a win, but added there were areas they could improve.

"We knew Argentina were going to be a tough opponent, especially being the first game and with them fighting for a World Cup spot," Magbegor said.

"We never take any team for granted and we wanted to start the tournament well. It was good to get the win, but we can look back on this game and work on a few things.

"This tournament is really important for us to build our chemistry and get better game by game."

Head coach Sandy Brondello said the tournament provided valuable time for the group to continue building cohesion.

"It's the first time this particular group has been together," she said.

"You saw some really good moments and some moments where we're trying to experiment. That's why we need these games as we move forward. "We'll be very intentional with what we do this week."

The Opals next take on Japan on Thursday night (AEDT) in Istanbul.

Australia have already qualified for the World Cup after winning the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup championship.
