Tributes have been paid to a "popular" and "brilliant" barmaid who has died.
Friends and colleagues of Janet Brice, from Fazakerley, said they were shocked and could not believe she had gone.
The 61-year-old mum and nan worked in The Vale Bar, on Walton Vale, where customers described her as "the light at the bar."
Owner of the Vale Bar, Keith Prothero, from Walton, said: "I’m in shock, we just couldn't believe it because we were only just speaking to her over the phone last week.
"She was great, we knew her since the bar opened.
"We knew her as a customer and I think she worked in the Black Bull years ago too, we always had a laugh with her.
"We went out for a drink early last year and we were talking and we were telling her about the bar and she said she'd love to come to work there, so we asked her."
Keith added: "She came and fit in straight away, she knew everyone anyway, she knew all the regulars and staff. She was an absolutely brilliant barmaid because she did it all her life.
"She was popular and liked by staff and customers alike, with her sense of humour and helpful attitude. She was always dead nice, dead calm and just took everything in her stride.
"She will be missed greatly not only by us at the bar but by all who knew her.
"Last week she rang, a few days before she died, asking about the renovations we’re doing upstairs in the bar, she said she couldn't wait to get back, and that's why it's such a shock."
Posting a tribute on Facebook, Keith said: "Really sad news today, and all of us at The Vale Bar are shocked.
"Our barmaid Jan, who joined us behind the bar last year, sadly passed away today.
"You will be missed Jan, not just by us but by all that knew you.
"Deepest sympathy to all her family, god bless."
