Brigitte Macron is planning to provide evidence to a US court to prove that she is a woman, according to her lawyer.
Tom Clare, who represents France’s First Lady and her husband, President Emmanuel Macron, said they will present material in support of their defamation case against right-wing influencer Candace Owens.
The defamation suit was launched in July accuses the influencer of propagating “outlandish, defamatory, and far-fetched fictions” that fuelled a lie-filled “campaign of global humiliation” and “relentless bullying”.
The couple’s lead counsel revealed on the BBC’s Fame Under Fire podcast that they are ready to prove "generically and specifically" how Owens' claims are false.
He did not go into detail about the nature of the material the couple are planning to present, but said “expert testimony that will come out that will be scientific in nature”.
He said the couple were prepared to demonstrate fully “both generically and specifically” that the allegations are false.
He said: “It is incredibly upsetting to think that you have to go and subject yourself, to put this type of proof forward.
“It is a process that she will have to subject herself to in a very public way. But she's willing to do it. She is firmly resolved to do what it takes to set the record straight.
“If that unpleasantness and that discomfort that she has of opening herself up in that way is what it takes to set a record straight and stop this, she's 100% ready to meet that burden.”
Ms Owens has millions of followers on social media and was a commentator for conservative US outlet Daily Wire.
She has repeatedly promoted her view that Brigitte Macron is a man – claiming in 2024 that she would stake her "entire professional reputation" on the allegation.
The claim originated through a 2021 YouTube video by French bloggers Amandine Roy and Natacha Rey.
The Macrons won a defamation case in France against Roy and Rey in 2024.
However the ruling was later overturned on appeal on freedom of expression grounds, not on the basis of truth.
The Macrons are appealing the decision.
