Brighton vs Tottenham LIVE: Premier League result, match stream, and latest updates

Brighton vs Tottenham LIVE!

Jan Paul van Hecke scored a late own goal as Spurs battled back from two goals down to salvage a 2-2 Premier League draw at the Amex Stadium.

Thomas Frank’s side looked destined to suffer a first top-flight away defeat of the season following first-half finishes from Seagulls pair Yankuba Minteh and Yasin Ayari, but Richarlison’s scrappy goal halved the deficit minutes before the interval to give the Lilywhites hope.

Spurs then came out strongly for the second period and the introduction of Xavi Simons gave the away side much greater attacking threat, with the equaliser eventually arriving when Mohammed Kudus’s delivery bounced in via Brighton defender Van Hecke some eight minutes from the end.

Re-live the action below, with expert analysis from Standard Sport’s Matt Verri at the Amex Stadium.

Three things we learned from Tottenham draw as Simons makes case for new role

17:50 , Alex Dakers

There is something about the Amex Stadium that brings out Tottenham’s chaotic side, writes Matt Verri.

Much of Thomas Frank’s tenure so far has been calm, composed and even uneventful. Not so here against Brighton.

It will go down as a good result for Spurs, who had shipped seven goals across their two defeats on the south coast in the last two seasons.

FULL-TIME! Brighton 2-2 Tottenham

16:55 , Alex Dakers

And that’s it!

The Seagulls were two goals up before Richarlison halved the deficit just shy of half time.

An unlucky late own goal from Jan Paul van Hecke then meant the points were split at the Amex.

Will either side find a winner?

Brighton 2-2 Tottenham

16:48 , Alex Dakers

88mins: A rash challenge from Cristian Romero earns the Tottenham centre-back a yellow card.

Meanwhile, Pedro Porro and Lucas Bergvall go off for Djed Spence and Archie Gray.

Brighton 2-2 Tottenham

16:47 , Alex Dakers

87mins: Simons is fine and play has resumed.

Brighton earn themselves a corner, but Spurs clear it with relative ease.

Brighton 2-2 Tottenham

16:45 , Alex Dakers

85mins: Simons remains down, and Brighton take the chance to replace Ferdi Kadioglu with Mats Wieffer.

Brighton 2-2 Tottenham

16:44 , Alex Dakers

Matt Verri at the Amex Stadium:

Still the best part of 10 minutes to go including stoppages, and Spurs are pushing for a winner after that own goal levelled things up.

Simons down in the box... never getting a penalty for that. He's stayed down though and looks in a fair bit of pain.

GOAL! Brighton 2-2 Tottenham

16:42 , Alex Dakers

82mins: That equaliser has been coming.

Kudus whips a cross in and the last touch comes off Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke’s thigh and into the far corner.

Brighton 2-1 Tottenham

16:41 , Alex Dakers

81mins: Yet another counter attack from Brighton, but nobody is in the box in time to receive Mitoma’s ball in from the right.

Spurs go up the other end and Xavi Simons finds Richarlison, but it’s a fairly simple save for Bart Verbruggen.

Brighton 2-1 Tottenham

16:38 , Alex Dakers

78mins: Cristiano Romero has to close Kaoru Mitoma down quickly, with the Brighton man through on goal.

He does, and Guglielmo Vicario gathers.

Brighton 2-1 Tottenham

16:35 , Alex Dakers

76mins: Rutter and Minteh are withdrawn for Brighton, with Danny Welbeck and Diego Coppola thrown into the action.

Brighton 2-1 Tottenham

16:33 , Alex Dakers

73mins: Bergvall wins a foul in his own half, with Brighton substitute Diego Gomez shown a yellow card for a late tackle.

Brighton 2-1 Tottenham

16:31 , Alex Dakers

71mins: Another Tottenham change now as Wilson Odobert is replaced by Brennan Johnson.

Brighton 2-1 Tottenham

16:30 , Alex Dakers

70mins: Nearly Xavi Simons again!

Lucas Bergvall cleverly lets a Mohammed Kudus delivery pass him by and it reaches the Dutchman, but he drags his shot wide from the edge of the box.

Simons probably should have done better there...

Brighton 2-1 Tottenham

16:28 , Alex Dakers

68mins: As Matt said that, Simons indeed flashed another effort towards Brighton’s goalmouth.

Bart Verbruggen had to get down quickly to push that one wide with his left glove.

Brighton 2-1 Tottenham

16:27 , Alex Dakers

Matt Verri at the Amex Stadium:

Simons has had an immediate impact.

Couple of efforts, a clever pass that played Bergvall in. Offered more in barely six minutes than he did in two appearances on the left wing.

Brighton 2-1 Tottenham

16:26 , Alex Dakers

64mins: Xavi Simons is involved almost immediately, as he slices wide after Destiny Udogie and Richarlison work the ball in his direction.

Brighton 2-1 Tottenham

16:23 , Alex Dakers

63mins: That was a rare glimpse at a second goal for the hosts in this half, and Fabian Hurzeler seems aware of that.

The Seagulls boss sends on James Milner for Brajan Gruda.

Brighton 2-1 Tottenham

16:22 , Alex Dakers

62mins: Close!

Brighton’s Yasin Ayari, who has already scored one effort from distance today, thwacks a volley just wide to the right of Vicario’s post.

Brighton 2-1 Tottenham

16:20 , Alex Dakers

Matt Verri at the Amex Stadium:

Thomas Frank has the tactics board out, long conversation with Simons as the Dutchman gets ready to come on.

There's space on offer for him and he has the quality to pick that pass in the final third.

Rodrigo Bentancur replaced so we'll get our first look of Simons in a central position for Spurs

Brighton 2-1 Tottenham

16:19 , Alex Dakers

59mins: Lewis Dunk takes a free-kick from within his own half, and attempts to beat Guglielmo Vicario after spotting the Tottenham shot-stopper off his line.

Brighton’s captain isn’t quite accurate enough with his effort, though, and it flies over the crossbar and out of play as Vicario scampers backwards.

Brighton 2-1 Tottenham

16:17 , Alex Dakers

57mins: Xavi Simons is getting ready to come on now for Tottenham.

A potential difference maker?

It looks like Rodrigo Bentancur will make way.

Brighton 2-1 Tottenham

16:16 , Alex Dakers

55mins: Spurs have had some 83% of the ball since half-time, but it was a similar story in the first half before Brighton opened the scoring.

Brighton 2-1 Tottenham

16:16 , Alex Dakers

Matt Verri at the Amex Stadium:

Spurs' defenders have not been at it today.

Romero the latest to get spun on the halfway line, brilliant skill from Rutter.

All the talk about how good Spurs have been at the back this season - not seeing that this afternoon!

Brighton 2-1 Tottenham

16:13 , Alex Dakers

54mins: Mohammed Kudus swing in another corner for Spurs, but Richarlison can’t quite reach it - and a foul is called for some jostling in the box, anyway.

Brighton have a chance of their own with Georginio Rutter again helping spark a fast break as he did for the opening goal, but Destiny Udogie catches up with Yankuba Minteh this time.

Brighton 2-1 Tottenham

16:12 , Alex Dakers

52mins: Once again, Lucas Bergvall very nearly gets on the end of a low ball into the box.

Only a matter of time before the in-form youngster latches onto one of those deliveries?

Brighton 2-1 Tottenham

16:09 , Alex Dakers

48mins: While I was busy letting you all know about Baleba’s withdrawal, Mohammed Kudus went in the referee’s book for a reckless challenge.

The first yellow card of the afternoon, that.

Brighton 2-1 Tottenham

16:08 , Alex Dakers

47mins: Tottenham are unchanged so far to begin this second half, with one change for the hosts as Carlos Baleba is swapped out for Diego Gomez by Fabian Hurzeler.

The 21-year-old has seen his minutes managed so far this season after dealing with a knee issue over the summer.

Gomez, meanwhile, was among the goal-scorers when Brighton beat Spurs 4-1 at the end of last season.

Second half kick-off: Brighton 2-1 Tottenham

16:04 , Alex Dakers

46mins: Back underway at the Amex Stadium!

Can Tottenham find an equaliser? When might we see Xavi Simons emerge from the bench?

Or will Brighton extend their lead again?

We’ll soon find out!

HALF-TIME! Brighton 2-1 Tottenham

15:49 , Alex Dakers

Three minutes worth of stoppages have been played, and Brighton lead at half-time.

Tottenham have hope, though, thanks to Richarlison’s effort towards the end of the opening period.

Brighton 2-1 Tottenham

15:48 , Alex Dakers

Matt Verri at the Amex Stadium:

2-1!

A bit of a mess in the Brighton box but Spurs couldn't care less as Richarlison slides in to get his side right back in this.

GOAL! Brighton 2-1 Tottenham

15:46 , Alex Dakers

43mins: Game on!

Mohammed Kudus looks to be going for goal and instead strikes Richarlison, who reacts well to poke the ball past Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.

Brighton 2-0 Tottenham

15:44 , Alex Dakers

Matt Verri at the Amex Stadium:

Saying that...

Brighton 2-0 Tottenham

15:43 , Alex Dakers

Matt Verri at the Amex Stadium:

Spurs have been much better from set-pieces this season but they've offered nothing from them so far this afternoon.

Thomas Frank with plenty to address at half time

Brighton 2-0 Tottenham

15:42 , Alex Dakers

41mins: Tottenham’s left flank of Destiny Udogie and Wilson Odobert has been linking up well, and they win the visitors their fourth corner of the first half.

Nothing comes of it, though, with Richarlison heading wide under pressure from Lewis Dunk.

Brighton 2-0 Tottenham

15:38 , Alex Dakers

37mins: Spurs keep probing for a way through Brighton’s backline - but every time they lose the ball or fire off a half-hearted attempt under pressure, the Seagulls are absolutely flying down the other end of the pitch.

A big half-time team talk coming up for Thomas Frank if he wants to avoid a second defeat of the season.

Brighton 2-0 Tottenham

15:32 , Alex Dakers

Matt Verri at the Amex Stadium:

Richarlison thinks he was fouled, the Spurs staff think he was fouled... but Vicario has to save that.

Moved a bit but it's poor from the Spurs goalkeeper to let that fly past him. Spurs in real trouble now.

GOAL! Brighton 2-0 Tottenham

15:31 , Alex Dakers

31mins: Wow! Brighton are two goals up after a brilliant long-range strike by Yasin Ayari.

The Seagulls, still pressing relentlessly, win possession back after a loose Lucas Bergvall pass on the edge of the Spurs penalty box, and Ayari lets loose a shot that is too powerful for Guglielmo Vicario to keep out.

(Getty Images)

Brighton 1-0 Tottenham

15:30 , Alex Dakers

28mins: End to end stuff at the Amex Stadium, as Wilson Odobert finds himself in possession in Brighton’s penalty area.

The Frenchman slices at his vollied effort a little, and it goes wide of the mark.

Brighton 1-0 Tottenham

15:28 , Alex Dakers

27mins: Then it’s Brighton’s turn to attack, a move that ends with Yasin Ayari testing Guglielmo Vicario from distance.

The Seagulls go again after Tottenham’s goalie parried the ball back out, but Brajan Gruda skies his effort.

Brighton 1-0 Tottenham

15:27 , Alex Dakers

Matt Verri at the Amex Stadium:

All the best moments from Spurs are coming when they go long.

It's often been the ball down the line from Pedro Porro, but this time it's in behind and Richarlison brings it down well.

Tough attempt from a tight angle, but a decent spell for Spurs.

Brighton 1-0 Tottenham

15:26 , Alex Dakers

25mins: Tottenham press forward again and lump the ball up to Richarlison, but the Brazilian forward can only find the side-netting.

Brighton 1-0 Tottenham

15:25 , Alex Dakers

24mins: Ferdi Kadioglu has his work cut out for him against Mohammed Kudus today, but the Brighton left-back has done well so far.

He doesn’t give him space to breathe there, and runs the ball out of play for a goalkick.

Brighton 1-0 Tottenham

15:22 , Alex Dakers

21mins: Another promising fast break from Brighton after the hosts win possesion in their own penalty area, but Guglielmo Vicario rushes out to clear Carlos Baleba’s attempt at finding Georginio Rutter.

Brighton 1-0 Tottenham

15:20 , Alex Dakers

19mins: Yankuba Minteh threatens the Tottenham backline again, but Destiny Udogie chases him down and wins Spurs a goalkick.

Brighton 1-0 Tottenham

15:17 , Alex Dakers

15mins: Brighton have had very little possession so far today but are pressing every Tottenham player that receives the ball.

Kudus beats Kadioglu and tries another cross into the box, where Richarlison is waiting, but it’s cleared once more.

Brighton 1-0 Tottenham

15:11 , Alex Dakers

Matt Verri at the Amex Stadium:

Spurs so often rely on Micky Van de Ven to get them out of trouble in situations like that, but he had pressed up the pitch and Cristian Romero was never going to catch Minteh.

Calm finish from the Brighton man - Spurs concede for only the second time this season.

(Getty Images)

GOAL! Brighton 1-0 Tottenham

15:08 , Alex Dakers

8mins: Scratch that!

Brighton break quickly through Georginio Rutter, who finds Yankuba Minteh - ruled to just about be onside by VAR - and the pacey winger who won back possession to start the move nudges the ball past Guglielmo Vicario.

It’s Minteh’s second goal in three appearances against Spurs, who will be kicking themselves at conceding there after dominating the proceedings until now.

(Getty Images)

Brighton 0-0 Tottenham

15:08 , Alex Dakers

6mins: The visitors have definitely been on top in these early stages, with Destiny Udogie darting forward into the penalty box.

He cuts the ball back across goal but it’s knocked out of danger before Lucas Bergvall can get a touch.

Brighton 0-0 Tottenham

15:05 , Alex Dakers

Matt Verri at the Amex Stadium:

"Crystal Palace, they've won more than you" is the chant from the away end.

I’m sure Brighton fans are appreciating that!

Brighton 0-0 Tottenham

15:04 , Alex Dakers

1min: No real surprise that Mohammed Kudus is a bright spark early on for this Tottenham side, attempting a cross from the right flank that Brighton captain Lewis Dunk bats away.

KICK-OFF

We are underway at the Amex Stadium!

Teams coming out

14:58 , Alex Dakers

Both teams are out on the pitch now, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off at the Amex Stadium.

Creative burden on Kudus

14:55 , Alex Dakers

With Xavi Simons starting on the bench, fellow summer signing Mohammed Kudus looks likely to continue carrying much of the creative burden for Tottenham.

Can he inspire Spurs to a fifth win from six games in all competitions this season?

Hurzeler: Brighton preparing to 'play better football'

14:50 , Alex Dakers

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler has been speaking to the media ahead of kick-off.

On last weekend’s loss to Bournemouth: “We always do a lot of reflection no matter if we win or lose. Overall, we agreed it wasn't our best game.”

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler (Getty Images)

Hurzeler added: "I think we lacked a little bit of intensity and compactness between our midfield, striker and our defender so the distance between each other was too big. I think between each other we didn't play our game only in some phases.

“Overall, we were honest and analysed and agreed we can play better football."

Record-setting Milner's mind-boggling longevity

14:44 , Alex Dakers

James Milner starts today’s match on the bench, as he has on all but one occasion so far this season.

But the veteran midfielder does already have a goal to his name in 2025/26, having netted a penalty against his old club Manchester City a few weeks ago.

That effort, scored at the age of 39 years and 239 days old made him the oldest player in Premier League history to score from the spot.

Milner is also now the second-oldest goal-scorer in Premier League history, with only Teddy Sheringham - 40 years and 268 days old - beating him in that regard.

And let’s not forget, Milner’s maiden goal for Leeds United back in December 2002 - scored at the age of 16 years and 356 days old - still means he is the second-youngest goal-scorer in Premier League history as well!

WATCH: Matt Verri's match preview from the Amex

14:35 , Alex Dakers

Here’s a quick match preview from Matt Verri:

Kolo Muani's absence for Spurs, explained

14:27 , Alex Dakers

Here’s some more from our very own Matt Verri on the absent Randal Kolo Muani...

Randal Kolo Muani has been ruled out of Tottenham’s trip to face Brighton with a dead leg.

The Frenchman made his Spurs debut on Tuesday night in the 1-0 win over Villarreal in the Champions League, coming off the bench for the final 15 minutes, and was booked almost immediately as he challenged for the ball within seconds of being introduced.

He will have to wait to make his first start for Spurs, having picked up a dead leg that means he is not in the squad at the Amex Stadium.

Thomas Frank will hope to have Kolo Muani available in midweek for the Carabao Cup tie against Doncaster on Wednesday night.

Speaking ahead of last weekend’s win over West Ham, Frank revealed that the summer signing would need time to get up to full fitness.

“Definitely in terms of Randal, it's been a while since he's played,” Frank said.“Last time was in the Club World Cup. [He] hasn't trained really with PSG.”

Baleba starts as Brighton make four changes

14:22 , Alex Dakers

Carlos Baleba is back in Brighton’s starting XI today after beginning last weekend’s match against Bournemouth on the bench.

The talented young midfielder is one of four changes for the Seagulls, with Brajan Gruda, Ferdi Kadoiglu and Yasin Ayari all starting as well.

That means Danny Welbeck will have to search for his first league goal of the season in a possible substitute appearance.

Spurs' new-look left wing as Simons benched

13:52 , Alex Dakers

All change on the left wing for Spurs this afternoon, writes Matt Verri.

Destiny Udogie comes in for his first start of the season and it's Wilson Odobert in front of him in a surprise call.

That means Xavi Simons is on the bench, while fellow summer arrival Randal Kolo Muani doesn't even make the squad!

Djed Spence drops out for Udogie, while Joao Palhinha starting ahead of Pape Matar Sarr is the third line-up change for the visitors.

Brighton’s team news is in!

Bergvall form presents dilemma for Frank

13:45 , Alex Dakers

Tottenham will be wholeheartedly pleased by the development of in-form teenaged midfielder Lucas Bergvall, but the Swede’s emergence as a genuine first-team option does present a dilemma for Thomas Frank.

The 19-year-old has been named player of the match in Spurs’ last two matches, first in the Premier League against West Ham and then in the 1-0 win over Villarreal in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

(Getty Images)

But Bergvall has been deployed centrally for those performances, meaning Frank will likely have to drop either him or Pape Matar Sarr if he is to play Xavi Simons in the ‘10’ spot.

The Dutchman has instead started both of his matches so far for Spurs on the left wing, but some fans are clamouring for him to be used in the creative hole left by the injury-enforced absences of James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski.

Welbz and Dunk on a sunshine stroll

13:36 , Alex Dakers

Earlier, we saw Brighton captain Lewis Dunk and forward Danny Welbeck out for a stroll in the sunshine at the Amex Stadium.

Veteran centre-back Dunk is an ever-present figure in the Seagulls’ backline, while Welbeck has started all but one match in the league so far this season.

The English striker is still seeking his first goal of the campaign, though, having missed a penalty against Everton a few weeks ago. Will he find it today?

With just about an hour and a half to go until kick-off, we’re expecting full team news shortly.

Analysis: Have Spurs struck gold with Simons signing?

13:25 , Alex Dakers

There are few 22-year-olds who can say they have faced the glare of football’s spotlight for more than a decade. Attention and expectation are nothing new for Xavi Simons, Tottenham’s statement signing, writes Matt Verri.

(AFC Bournemouth via Getty Images)

Named after the former Barcelona midfielder and manager, he was a child prodigy at the club’s La Masia academy after joining at the age of seven. With his distinct blond curls adding to the intrigue, Simons had over a million Instagram followers by the age of 14.

“People used to have doubts and say: ‘We don’t know if Xavi can play football well, he just has a lot of Instagram followers’,” Simons admitted in an interview in 2023.

The journey since has taken him from Barcelona to London, via Paris, Eindhoven and Leipzig. It has been an unusual career trajectory.

He was training with Lionel Messi and Neymar at Paris Saint-Germain before he could legally drive, having already appeared alongside Ronaldinho and Neymar in a Nike advert at the age of 15.

(Supplied)

Unable to make his mark at PSG, a sparkling season at PSV got Simons’ career back on track and two years at RB Leipzig cemented his status as one of Europe’s brightest talents.

It was a major coup, therefore, for Spurs to complete a £51.8million deal this summer. Chelsea had already agreed personal terms with Simons but their London rivals moved quickly to secure the playmaker.

Frank drops hint over Simons position

13:18 , Alex Dakers

Thomas Frank suggested Xavi Simons could move into a more central at Tottenham as the team develops, but explained his decision to use the summer signing on the left wing since he arrived.

(Getty Images)

Simons started out wide in the wins over West Ham and Villarreal, with Frank opting to keep Lucas Bergvall and Pape Matar Sarr in midfield.

The Dutchman was largely quiet against West Ham but there were more promising signs of his partnership with Destiny Udogie in the Champions League on Tuesday, even if Simons was perhaps fortunate to avoid being sent off in the second half when already on a yellow card.

Although results have been largely positive under Frank, Spurs have struggled for large periods to create chances from open play, leading to calls for Simons to be used in the No10 role.

Speaking at his press conference ahead of Saturday’s trip to face Brighton, Frank again stated he “sees [Simons] in both positions”.

Pre-match preview: Frank faced with tricky Brighton test

13:12 , Alex Dakers

There are not a lot of recent happy memories for Tottenham at the Amex Stadium, writes Matt Verri.

Spurs fans will all too vividly remember last season's visit, a 3-2 defeat to Brighton and a result that the team's Premier League season never really recovered from.

Ange Postecoglou's side, at the time on a run of five straight wins, were 2-0 up at the break but collapsed in the second half.

It was miserable for Spurs a year earlier, too. They were 4-0 down with ten minutes to go and only late consolation goals from Ben Davies and Alejo Veliz added a modicum of respectability to the scoreline.

Add in a 4-1 defeat on home soil to Brighton last season and it paints an ugly picture of results and performances against this particular opposition under Postecoglou.

Thomas Frank, though, will not be burdened by those defeats. Asked if his preparations for this afternoon's trip to the south coast included watching recent meetings between the two sides, the Spurs boss was clear.

Who's in better form?

13:06 , Alex Dakers

Tottenham played in the Champions League in midweek for the first time since the 2022-23 season, when they were knocked out in the last-16 by AC Milan.

An own goal from Luiz Junior on four minutes gave them a narrow victory over Villarreal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and they return to domestic action this afternoon against a Brighton side in indifferent form.

Fabian Hürzeler’s team were beaten 2-1 by Bournemouth last time out, having stunned Manchester City by the same scoreline the week before.

They thrashed Championship side Oxford 6-0 in the Carabao Cup to follow a 2-0 defeat at Everton and a last-minute draw against Fulham on the opening day.

As for Spurs, a shock 0-1 home defeat to Bournemouth a few weeks ago has been Thomas Frank’s only loss so far this season. The Lilywhites have otherwise beaten Burnley, City and West Ham - all to nil.

Score prediction

12:49 , Alex Dakers

These are two teams that, typically, are consistently inconsistent.

One week they can be near-enough unstoppable, and the next, they can be cut through like butter.

Spurs showed their pragmatic side at times against Villarreal last time out, and they used that to their advantage to grind out an important first win in the Champions League.

Brighton are a much younger side that can be exposed at times, and with their injury issues, they are not at their strongest, particularly when Fabian Hürzeler chops and changes his line-up as often as he does.

This is a game that Spurs - who have four wins and four clean sheets from five games in all competitions so far this season - feel they should win.

Tottenham to win, 3-1.

Tottenham early team news: Palhinha pushing for start

12:47 , Alex Dakers

Spurs remain without striker Dominic Solanke, though he is edging closer to returning from an ankle injury.

James Maddison, Yves Bissouma, Radu Dragusin, Dejan Kulusevski and Kota Takai are also all still sidelined for the visitors.

Joao Palhinha started on the bench against Villarreal during the week but made a significant impact when he came on and there is every chance he earns a starting spot here.

We’d expect fellow summer arrivals Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons to also be named in Thomas Frank’s XI, with the likes of Lucas Bergvall and Pape Matar Sarr also in good form.

Brighton early team news: Hinshelwood out, De Cuyper a doubt

12:41 , Alex Dakers

For today’s hosts, Adam Webster and Solly March remain side-lined for an extended period with serious knee injuries, though Mats Wieffer is back along with Diego Gomez.

Brighton’s left-back Maxim De Cuyper is a doubt, but Jack Hinshelwood is now a long-term absentee after picking up an ankle injury early on in last weekend’s loss to Bournemouth.
