Brighton vs Manchester United LIVE Premier League: Latest score and goal updates, plus where to watch, stream

José Mourinho’s Manchester United will be looking to build on their victory against Leicester City on the opening day of the season when they visit Brighton this Sunday.

The Red Devils were made to work hard for their 2-1 victory against the Foxes, but goals from captain Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw ensured the Old Trafford faithful were made to forget about the club’s disappointing summer activity.

Mourinho will be looking to mount a more serious title challenge this season, and Brighton’s victory against his side at the Amex in May last season will be enough of a warning to the Portuguese.

Chris Hughton’s side have problems of their own however after their opening-weekend defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road after two goals from Roberto Pereyra. The 59-year-old will be desperate for his new summer additions to click soon, including record signing Alireza Jahanbakhsh. Follow all of the latest below.

That's it for this afternoon folks!

It's been a cracking Super Sunday with 16 goals scored in 3 games.

Manchester City have somehow improved on their start from last season, two wins from two and eight goals scored following their 6-1 demolition of Huddersfield.

Watford have also completed back-to-back wins after their 3-1 victory away at Turf Moor, their first win there since 2004.

And the afternoon was completed with Manchester United succumbing at Brighton for the third time in succession.

Thanks for joining us.

17:58
FULL TIME! Brighton 3-2 Manchester United

Brighton deservedly secure the three points with a first half performance that left the United defenders running scared.

Murray, Gross and co. tore Lindelof and Bailly to shreds throughout the majority in the first half and they didn't attack much better, either.

It is the first significant defeat for one of the so called 'big boys' in the Premier League this season and following City's 6-1 romp over Huddersfield earlier this afternoon, this result looks even more sensational.

Plenty to worry about for Jose Mourinho.
17:56
United sending players forward for one last foray...
17:55
Cracking goal from United but it'll be a little too late for the Red Devils I imagine.
17:55
90+4: GOAL! Brighton 3-2 Manchester United (Pogba pen, 94)
17:54
90+4 mins: PENALTY UNITED
17:53
90+1 mins: Brighton make their final sub with Murray replaced by Locadia.
17:52
90 mins: 4 minutes of additional time added
17:49
88 mins: Final substitute for Brighton. Gross replaced by Kayal.

17:45
85 mins: I'd like to report that United are throwing the kitchen sink at Brighton and making this a really exciting finish for neutrals and fans alike.

Alas, I cannot. United have barely breached the defence and I think it's fair to say that the South coast side are rather comfortable.
17:39
Brighton's rearguard holding firm and have won themselves some time with Mat Ryan receiving attention after clashing with his own defender.
17:37
Quarter of an hour to go here and United just can't get anything going.
17:35
75 mins: CHANCE!

Well, it was half a chance anyway! Rashford swings a cross in which Lukaku just couldn't reach but the ball comes out to Pogba who unleashes a great shot which Ryan tips behind for corner on the stretch.
17:32
72 mins: United have retaken an element of control in this match over the last 10 or 15 minutes but the last pass is rushed and they do not look like breaching this Brighton defence again.
17:30
68 mins: Jose Mourinho is very animated on the touchline complaining about the time Brighton are taking before goal kicks and set pieces.

Not much animated action going on on the pitch, though.
17:23
62 mins: Pogba passes it into touch. No one near him. Sums them up.
17:22
Can this man rescue United?

17:20
Anthony Martial is replaced by Maruoane Fellaini. Odd change.
17:18
57 mins: United's defence is an absolute sideshow. The nervousness and anxiety in the backline is clear to see. Every player who receives the ball looks uncomfortable and Brighton will look to press more.
17:15
54 mins: United look OKAY when going forward but at the back they lack any composure or resilience.

As I speak though, Pogba launches an aimless long ball out for a goal kick.

What time does it start?

Brighton and Hove Albion vs Manchester United kicks off at 4PM (BST).

Where can I watch it?

The match will be shown live on Sky Sports’ Premier League and Main Event channels. Sky Sports subscribers can also stream the game online via the SkyGo app. Highlights will be shown at 10:30PM on BBC One.

It’s a big game for…

Fred: The Brazilian appeared to lash out at Leicester City’s Demarai Gray in the first half and opinion was split on whether the midfielder should have faced further punishment. The 25-year-old represents the major piece of business for the Red Devils this summer and will need to put in more level-headed performances if his partnership with Paul Pogba is to flourish.

Stat…

4: Brighton were undefeated in all four of their home Premier League matches on a Sunday last season, while United lost four of their five away matches on a Sunday last campaign.

Remember when…

The most famous encounter between these two sides came in the 1983 FA Cup, when the sides faced off at Wembley Stadium in the final. The final ended in a 2-2 draw, and included this fantastic curling effort from the late Ray Wilkins which put United into a 2-1 lead with 18 minutes remaining. Brighton’s Gary Stevens scored three minutes from time to set up a replay five days later, which saw the Red Devils run out 4-0 winners after a Bryan Robson double.

Player to watch…

Paul Pogba: The World Cup winner is reportedly being considered as permanent captain by José Mourinho, and the 25-year-old led by example against Leicester, putting in an excellent display less than a month after experiencing World Cup glory and capping it off with a calm, collected spot kick.

Past three-meetings…

  • Brighton and Hove Albion 1 (Groß) Manchester United 0, Premier League, May 2018
  • Manchester United 2 (Lukaku, Matić) Brighton and Hove Albion 0, FA Cup, March 2018
  • Manchester United 1 (Dunk OG) Brighton and Hove Albion 0, Premier League, November 2017
