Brighton vs Crystal Palace LIVE – Latest score and goal updates from the Amex Stadium

It’s a fixture that has become England’s strangest derby. The clubs are separated by nearly 50 miles of M23 tarmac, but still have an intense rivalry that dates back to 1976 when they played each other five times in one season, including a three-legged FA Cup tie. Crystal Palace travel to the Amex on Tuesday looking to close the gap between them and the Seagulls to three points.

Both sides spent much of last season looking over their shoulders, and whilst both sit in 11th and 14th this time around it is still far too early to relax as the bottom half of the table remains tight. Hughton has form for building a stable ship in the Premier League with Newcastle and Norwich, and he is doing the same at Brighton as they sit nine points clear of the drop. Palace however, have more cause for concern. The Eagles are only three points above the relegation zone and only Huddersfield have scored fewer goals this season.

Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend have scored seven goals between them this season, working overtime in the absence of a natural finisher up top. Meanwhile, Brighton possess just that in Glenn Murray who has scored seven of Brighton’s 16 goals this campaign. The Seagulls have been busy at the back, second only to Burnley for blocked shots and crosses.

Watford slip to 11th with Cardiff, Crystal Palace and Huddersfield occupying the spots just above the relegation zone.
Manchester City remain top of the table and go five points clear at least until Liverpool play tomorrow.

Bournemouth move up to sixth with Brighton into the top ten.

The win for West Ham puts them into 12th.

Player to watch:

There can only be one man. Wilfried Zaha is the cornerstone to everything daring and decisive for Palace. He ranks highly for successful take-ons this season and has even been given the responsibility of leading the line in a side that otherwise struggles for goals.
