Brighton to recall Viktor Gyokeres with forward to join Swansea City's Championship rivals as Steve Cooper's striker hunt intensifies

Brighton are set to recall Viktor Gyokeres from his loan spell at Swansea City.

The versatile striker - who is understood to already be back on the south coast of England - joined the Swans on a season-long loan deal from the Seagulls in October but has struggled to make an impression under Steve Cooper.

He has made 12 appearances for the club in all competitions, with only three of those being starts.

His solitary goal for the club came in his last outing against Stevenage in the third round of the FA Cup last time out.

And the 22-year-old's loan stint with Swansea is now set to be cut short.

Meanwhile, The Athletic report that Brighton will send Gyokeres back out on loan to Swansea's Championship rivals Coventry City.

Speaking after his maiden strike for Swansea, the Sweden international - who had a short spell out of action in November after contracting coronavirus - admitted he had held talks with his agent amid interest from other clubs.

"My agent has been in contact with some clubs that are interested. So we'll see what happens next," he told Fotbollskanalen.

"It is clear that I wanted to play more than I have done. I came here on loan in October and there have been two national team breaks and then I got coronavirus in November."

It comes after Bristol City and Wolves recalled Kasey Palmer and Morgan Gibbs-White respectively from their loan stints in south Wales.

Freddie Woodman and Marc Guehi are now the only loan players at the Liberty Stadium, which means Swansea have three loan slots available as EFL rules state clubs can only name five loan players in any given matchday squad.

Swansea are understood to be in the market for a striker, a No.10 and a goalkeeper this month.
