Nottingham Forest fans sceptical as Brighton star Shane Duffy at centre of transfer claim

Former Celtic defender Adam Virgo says he can "guarantee" Chris Hughton would try to take Shane Duffy to the City Ground amid concern the former Brighton ace is struggling to settle at Parkhead.

Duffy's performances have come under the spotlight for Neil Lennon's side who are 19 points behind fierce rivals Rangers in the Scottish Premier League with their hopes of making it 10 titles in a row in tatters.

Virgo, who played for the Hoops during a fine career, is now a pundit for BT Sport and has been assessing Duffy's displays following his move north of the border on loan.

And while he does not see Duffy breaking back into the Brighton side under Graham Potter should he return south, he could see Forest making a stunning move for the defender.

Forest boss Hughton and Duffy worked together at Brighton and Virgo believes that Hughton is a huge fan of the centre-back despite the Reds already having a plethora of options.

“He looked a bag of nerves against Rangers," said Virgo.

"Unfortunately, he’s made too many mistakes which have led to goals.

“I don’t see Shane going back to Brighton because he won’t get in the side.

“Other clubs will take him in the Championship. I guarantee Chris Hughton, who had him at Brighton, would snap him up at Nottingham Forest.”

Although Hughton may well be an admirer of Duffy, the player's wages would surely be problematic with the defender reportedly earning more than £45,000-a-week at Brighton.

Here's what some Forest fans have made of the comments on our Facebook page.

Malc Connor: We don’t need any centre backs !

Paul Reidy: We have a good CB on Soh ... just play him!

Gordon Ronnie: He is having a nitemare gets caught out of position too often, gets caught for pace and too many mistakes. Big Scott Mckenna far superior player.

Paul Cross: Creative midfielder, winger , ( Grosiki ) A striker, but would be tough in current climate, another defender NO!!!!!

Brian Love: Celtic fans would have preferred McKenna, as Duffy has been poor... So we will probably get him. We should have Mbe Soh, Worrall, McKenna and Ribs at the back, with youngsters covering. Not another below average journeyman a PL team doesn’t want.

Do you think a move for Shane Duffy would be good for Forest? Or are there enough centre-backs already at the club?
