Brighton's transfer stance that could affect Ben White to Leeds United deal

Leeds United have discovered Brighton and Hove Albion's transfer stance as they continue to be linked with a move for Ben White.

Amid Seagulls chief Tony Bloom admission that there could be movement in terms of central defenders at the Amex Stadium during the current transfer window, captain Lewis Dunk has been tipped to join Chelsea.

A £40m transfer has been touted in recent days, in a move that would be bad news for the Whites.

Forwards linked with a Leeds United transfer

This is because any defensive exits would likely increase the chances of White being seen as a natural replacement for Dunk despite the recent arrival of Joel Veltman from Ajax.

As a result, it would be somewhat of a surprise if Brighton allowed Dunk and White to leave in the same window.

However, according to the Argus, the Seagulls have not been in contact with the Blues regarding a deal for the latter and are said to be in no rush to do business.

In addition, the report states Albion are assessing their array of defensive options and are comfortable with their situation in what has been a quieter transfer window than first expected.

Leeds have already had two bid rejected for White and the club's chief executive Angus Kinnear has admitted they may have to pull the plug on their pursuit of a permanent deal for the former loanee in order to pursue other targets.

"I think it's going to be incredibly challenging, I think is the latest position," Kinnear said on The Extra Ball podcast. "We've made no secrets of how highly we rate Ben, you saw what he did this season.

"I think we could have done without him ripping one into the top corner in the last game, everyone was celebrating and I had my head in my hands!

"The reality is, he did a wonderful job for us, but he's a Brighton player, they rate him very highly, I'm sure they see us as a rival.

"There is competition for his position at Brighton, I would imagine they are going to be giving him a level of confidence that he's going to be selected week in, week out.

"The conversations are continuing but we have to be respectful of Brighton's position, that he is their player.

"There is no lack of financial commitment in terms of trying to secure him, but there comes a point where you have to accept that it's not going to happen, and you don't pursue someone for too long at the expense of other targets.

"We have two or three other names in that group in terms of that position, who supporters should be really excited about.

"I know emotionally it won't have the same appeal as getting Ben back, but if it doesn't work with Ben we've got some good cover lined up."
