Brighton's stance over Ben White's long-term future

Brighton & Hove Albion are reportedly set to resist interest in Ben White, after the centre-half’s impressive loan spell at Leeds United has turned plenty of heads.

The 21-year-old has been a revelation for Marcelo Bielsa’s team this season, ably stepping up to plug the gap left by Pontus Jansson in the backline.

He’s played every minute of Leeds league campaign so far, helping them boast the best defensive record in the division with five clean sheets and just seven goals conceded from 11 games.

Catching the eye for his composure in and out of possession and ball-playing ability, Liverpool have recently been linked with a , whilst Leeds would surely be interested in turning his current deal into a permanent one should they achieve promotion.

The Poole-born Brighton academy graduate has only made two League Cup appearances for his parent club, before doing well in loan spells at Newport County, Peterborough United and now Leeds.

“The guys have done well here in terms of what loan opportunities our players have had,” Brighton boss Potter said recently.

“Ben White at Leeds has a great opportunity to work with Bielsa and compete in the Championship in front of a big and hostile crowd so good for him.”

Local Brighton outlet The Argus report that his parent club are set to hold firm in the event of any offers for the defender.

The Seagulls are currently well-stocked in the centre-half department, with their Premier League status built on the foundation of Shane Duffy and Lewis Dunk at the back.

This summer they also invested in Adam Webster from Bristol City at a reported £19m fee and highly-rated prospect Matt Clarke from Portsmouth, before sending him back out on loan to Derby County.

Nevertheless, it appears that White is a big part of the club’s future plans.
