Brighton respond to Ben White and Liverpool transfer rumours

Brighton and Hove Albion boss Graham Potter insists Ben White has not had his head turned by recent transfer speculation linking him with a move to Liverpool and Manchester United.

White impressed during a loan spell with Leeds United last season, helping them win promotion from the Championship, and has been a first-team regular in the Premier League since his return to the Seagulls.

Leeds wanted to sign the centre-back on a permanent basis but had three bids rejected during the summer window.

But after the loss of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez through injury, Liverpool were once again touted as a potential destination for White after they watched him at Elland Road on several occasions last term.

"He is a level-headed guy and he wants to play football at the very highest level," Potter replied.

"He gets down with his work. He was totally professional in the summer, despite the noise outside which you cannot control.

"He is a smart guy. We will try to help him enjoy his football as that is the most important thing."

White had only played twice for Brighton's first team before this season - two EFL Cup outings in 2016-17.

Brighton are currently 16th in the Premier League table after collecting 10 points from their opening 10 league matches.
