Brighton prepare approach for Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder after Swansea City's Graham Potter rebuff - reports

Brighton are preparing to make an approach for Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder after Swansea City's rebuff over Graham Potter, according to reports.

The Seagulls are on the hunt for a new boss after sacking Chris Hughton on Monday morning following the club's 17th-place finish in the Premier League.

Swans boss Graham Potter emerged as their No 1 target, but Swansea officially turned down Brighton's approach to speak with their manager on Tuesday.

Potter and the Swansea hierarchy have since been involved in discussions, with the Englishman understood to have been seeking assurances over what the future holds for the club. You can follow live updates on the situation here.

Now, Football Insider report  say the Seagulls are keen to talk to two or three candidates about replacing Chris Hughton and are preparing to make an approach for Sheffield United's Chris Wilder.

They say Wilder - who took his club from League One to the Premier League in just three seasons - is among the targets while Brighton could make an official approach to Sheffield United in the next 48 hours.

Why Swansea City boss Graham Potter was at Portsmouth v Sunderland amid Brighton interest

Potter has, during the course of the 2018/19 campaign, repeatedly stated that he views the job in SA1 as a long-term project, but has endured two difficult transfer windows at the Liberty Stadium to date, with no fewer than 19 players departing while only six have been recruited.
