Brighton Place fire: Crews rush to Portobello after car goes up in flames on busy street

Fire crews are battling a blaze in Portobello after a parked car went up in flames.

Shocking images have emerged this morning which show the vehicle alight on Brighton Place, close to homes and other parked vehicles.

Bus services were disrupted for a period, with traffic delays in Portobello as emergency crews battled to make the area safe. It's unclear at the moment whether there are any injuries.

The council-run Edinburgh Travel News confirmed shortly before 11.45am that "Portobello bus diversions have ended but expected some ongoing disruption following a vehicle fire on Brighton Place."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson told Edinburgh Live: "We were alerted at 10.56am on Friday, December 11 to reports of one car well-alight on Brighton Place, Portobello, Edinburgh.

"Operations Control mobilised one fire appliance and firefighters extinguished the flames.

"There were no reported casualties and crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe."
