Brighton and Hove Albion are lining up Joe Rodon as a replacement for Ben White should the England defender move to Arsenal this summer transfer window.
Welsh international Rodon was in and out of the Spurs team throughout the 2020/21 season making just eight Premier League starts and was not named in Tottenham's European squad due to not being considered a 'homegrown' player.
Rodon's status as 'non-homegrown' is down to his time as a youngster at Swansea under the Welsh federation and could be an issue for Spurs going forward if they wish to add more non-homegrown players to their squad.
At Swansea, Rodon was a key member of current Brighton boss Graham Potter's team and the Seagulls manager has identified the 23-year-old as the perfect replacement should White depart according to The Sun.
Rodon has been capped 18 times by his country and played every minute of Wales' Euro 2020 campaign until their 4-0 exit at the hands of a Denmark team containing Spurs teammate Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Centre-back Rodon joined Spurs from Swansea for a fee in the region of £10 million last summer and with new Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo preferring a three-man backline Rodon could be a key player for Tottenham going forward.
Rodon had a superb Euro 2020 and could benefit from Espirito Santo's tactics and will hope to become a more regular starter under the new man than he was under his predecessor Jose Mourinho.
Despite his lack of game time Rodon was thankful for the impact Mourinho made on his career: "It’s been a tough year, ups and downs, but I thought he [Mourinho] handled me very well," Rodon said.
"It’s made me way better, mentally as well, and it’s going to benefit you moving forward.
"Everyone wants to play games of course, but sometimes it doesn’t go that way. You have to pick yourself up, keep going and hopefully get your rewards at the end of it."
