Brighton hail Celtic target Shane Duffy as defender prepares for move

Brighton have paid tribute to Celtic target Shane Duffy as he prepares to leave the club.

The Daily Mail have reported that Duffy has expressed his desire to join Celtic, and they believe deal could be completed by the middle of this week.

Irish defender Duffy, who has been capped 33 times by his country, has also been linked with West Ham, West Brom and Burnley.

It appears, however, that he will soon complete a move to Neil Lennon's side.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Brighton chief executive Paul Barber said: “Shane has been absolutely magnificent for us, literally from the day he joined.

“He is a massive character on the pitch, he is an even bigger character off the pitch. He is loved by everyone at the club.

“It is a difficult decision for Graham (Potter) because there are so many centre-backs you can accommodate in one line-up, but Shane has been magnificent.

“We will be disappointed if we do lose him, but we also understand he wants to play football.”

28-year-old Duffy, who has three years remaining of his contract with Brighton, is expected to sign a one-year loan deal with Celtic.
