Brighton dealt Neal Maupay blow ahead of Premier League clash with Arsenal

Brighton are set to be without forward Neal Maupay for the game with Arsenal on Sunday after his two-match ban was increased to three games following his red card at Wolves.

The 24-year-old Frenchman was shown a red card after being seen remonstrating with referee Jon Moss following the 2-1 defeat at Molineux earlier this month.

He was initially given a two-match ban as his sending off fell under the category of 'using offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures'.

As a result, the Brighton forward missed the 1-1 draw with West Ham on Saturday and was also ruled out of Tuesday's match against Manchester City at the Amex Stadium.

But now, the FA has added an extra game onto that ban and he will miss Sunday's game against Arsenal at the Emirates as well.

A statement from the FA reads: "Brighton and Hove Albion FC's Neal Maupay has been suspended for one match and fined £25,000 after admitting a charge for breach of FA Rule E3 following their fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers FC in the Premier League o Sunday, May 9, 2021.

"The forward accepted that his language and behaviour was abusive, insulting, and improper following his dismissal."

It adds: "This fine and suspension are in addition to the automatic two-match suspension applied as a result of Neal Maupay's dismissal at full time for this fixture and he will be suspended for Brighton and Hove Albion FC's next two fixtures."

Maupay scored both home and away against Arsenal last season in the Premier League, with the Frenchman involved in a couple of flashpoints in the game at the Amex Stadium.

Following a challenge on Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno, the goalkeeper was left with a serious injury, with Maupay going on to score the winner in injury time, before clashing with Matteo Guendouzi after the final whistle.

The Frenchman then irked Arsenal fans with his comments after the game, stating that he felt some of the Gunners' players needed to learn what humility was, adding that he felt they got what they deserved.
