Brighton confirm five key players to miss Man City fixture including Adam Lallana and Tariq Lamptey

Brighton will be without five key men when they take on Manchester City at the Etihad this week.

After playing 120 minutes on Sunday in the FA Cup away on a poor pitch at League Two side Newport, Brighton next travel to City on Wednesday in the Premier League.

However, they will have to do without four injured players who would have likely been in line to start in Graham Potter's strongest starting XI.

Speaking before the Seagulls travel to City, Potter said Danny Welbeck, Adam Lallana, Aaron Connolly and Tariq Lamptey will not recover from injury in time for facing the Blues.

In addition, influential defensive midfielder Yves Bissouma is suspended after picking up five yellow cards.

Alireza Jahanbakhsh will be assessed after picking up a knock at Newport, but Steven Alzate could return after illness.

Despite the absences, Potter was hopeful of Brighton putting up a good fight against in-form City, although he admitted Pep Guardiola's men are going to be difficult to beat.

He said: "They're a fantastic team with a lot of great individuals, they're collectively an amazing outfit.

"There's a great attitude within their group and a humility about their team - they have been worthy Premier League champions in the past.

"[This season's title race] is still really early, you don't how things are going to go. But I've got my own concerns here."

Potter insisted his Seagulls side are in a better place than their meetings with City last season, even if results have remained inconsistent.

He said: "We feel we have improved performance wise, results wise we haven't.

"It's a busy time for us all. There's a lot going on outside of football as well, but it's nothing we can't handle. We have to do our best and take the challenge of this week on, it'll bring us together - we're looking forward to it."
