Brighton 1-1 Newcastle - where it all went wrong for the Magpies down on the South Coast

Newcastle United threw away the chance to make it three successive wins as they faltered after a dominant first-half display against Brighton.

The first 45 minutes saw United dominate the proceedings - and they went into the break 1-0 up thanks to Ayoze Perez's 12th goal of the season.  The Spaniard smashed home after neat lay-off from Salomon Rondon.

However Perez's exit from the game shortly after due to a hip injury diminished United's attack, and they failed to capitalise on a woeful Brighton display.

Chris Hughton's men, who were under pressure with Cardiff City looking to catch them in the final two games of the season to avoid relegation, came out in the second-half with renewed confidence.

United's intensity that had seen them play Brighton off the park in the first 45 was nowhere to be seen as The Seagulls looked to get back into the game.

It took until the 75th minute for Pascal Gross to grab the goal as he put past Martin Dubravka.

It was a deserved goal for Hughton's side who now lie four points above Cardiff with superior goal difference.

Yet how did it go so wrong for Newcastle? The Chronicle Live's Chief Sports Writer Lee Ryder, and NUFC writer Chris Waugh discuss a game of two halves for United in this weekend's Everything is Black and White game review.
