Manchester United reclaimed fifth place in the Premier League table as goals from Mason Greenwood and Bruno Fernandes secured a 3-0 win and Brighton.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was almost punished for resting a host of players at the weekend as United claimed an extra-time FA Cup win at Norwich City, but the Red Devils boss restored a number of key names at the Amex Stadium.
United were in control of the game from the off, dominating possession - and they got their reward 16 minutes in as 18-year-old Greenwood scored what is already becoming a trademark goal, cutting in from the left before finding the bottom left-hand corner of the net with a low disguised finish.
United's main problem this season has been a lack of goals, but Fernandes' deflected finish - off a Paul Pogba pass - just before the half-hour mark gave the visitors breathing space to take a two-goal cushion into the interval.
Graham Potter's Brighton showed spirit in trying to mount a comeback in difficult conditions, but United struck on the counter five minutes after the restart.
Nemanja Matic hooked a long volleyed clearance over his shoulder to start a counter, and Greenwood crossed from the left for Fernandes to thrash a volley home to wrap up the game.
The win sends United back to fifth above Wolves in the race for Champions League qualification, while the performance itself will add fuel to the argument that Solskjaer is building a team around Fernandes that could challenge for top honours next season.
