April 09--Zooey Deschanel has starred on the television series "New Girl" for the last four years. Now she gets to be one in Manhattan Beach. The actress bought a home for $4.569 million in the tightknit community popular with sports stars and celebrities but where it's tough to keep a secret.
The neighborhood location and lack of ocean views or direct access makes this an unlikely candidate for a second home at the beach.
Built last year, the Cape Cod-inspired two-story of 5,166 square feet opens to a flagstone patio with heaters. Listing details say there's also room for a sports court and a swimming pool on the 8,808-square-foot grounds.
A family room with a limestone fireplace, a bar, six bedrooms and seven bathrooms are among the living areas.
Deschanel, 35, will star in this year's upcoming films "The Driftless Area" and "Rock the Kasbah."
