BRIEF: Yankees zing Cubs in Twitter poll about World Series rings

Feb. 09--That escalated quickly.

A quick tweet from a Yankees fan named Liam led to two Twitter polls from two MLB team accounts, over 80,000 votes and maybe some hurt feelings.

When @liamgordd stated that "@Yankees Twitter account > @Cubs Twitter account," the Cubs responded with a simple poll.

The Yankees' account took it up a notch, asking about World Series rings.

Snap.

For the record: Yankees have 27 World Series rings; the Cubs have 2.

The teams played nice in December when the Cubs traded Starlin Castro to the Yankees for right-handed pitcher Adam Warren and a player to be named later (later named as infielder Brendan Ryan).

Maybe there's some residual New York anger after Cubs board member Todd Ricketts said "Mets fans are really, really obnoxious" at the Cubs Convention in January?

Later, the Cubs and Yankees appeared to (virtually) hug it out.

The Cubs report to spring training in 10 days.
