BRIEF: Wrong-way crash kills two on 110 Freeway in downtown L.A.

Nov. 13--A high-speed wrong-way crash on the southbound 110 Freeway in downtown Los Angeles killed two people early Thursday, authorities said.

Authorities said a white Acura sedan appeared to have been traveling at roughly 100 mph when it slammed into a pickup truck at 9th Street, killing both drivers, KTLA reported.

The collision occurred shortly about 1:19 a.m., after a caller reported the sedan traveling north on the southbound side of the freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol. Shortly after that call, authorities were notified of the two-car collision at 9th Street, officials said.

The drivers, identified only as two males, were the only occupants of the vehicles, the CHP said.

A SigAlert was issued about 1:30 a.m., with all but the far left of the southbound lanes closed for hours as crews worked to clear the scene. All lanes were reopened shortly after 5:30 a.m., according to the CHP

An investigation into crash is ongoing, officials said.
