BRIEF: Worker crushed to death by truck in Joliet

Feb. 16--A 22-year-old man was crushed to death while working Friday afternoon in southwest suburban Joliet.

Jeremy Hughes, of Joliet, was working at CenterPoint Properties in the 3000 block of Center Point Way when he was involved in a work-related accident, according to the Will County coroner's office.

An autopsy Saturday determined Hughes, who was pronounced dead at 4:54 p.m. Friday at the Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, died of multiple injuries due to being crushed between a trailer and a semi, the coroner's office said.

Joliet Police Lt. Jeff Allbert said the victim was operating a piece of machinery or truck moving containers about 4 p.m. when it got stuck on a patch of ice. He exited his truck to try and figure out how to get out of the ice, but "unbeknownst to him," another driver began backing into the victim's truck to try and free it when the victim was pinned, Allbert said.
