BRIEF: Woman stabbed to death on South Side

Feb. 21--A 35-year-old woman was stabbed to death in a domestic attack Saturday evening in the Bridgeport neighborhood, police said.

About 6 p.m., the woman was stabbed in the neck by a known attacker in the 2800 block of South Short Street, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago police spokesman.

She was identified as Maricela Villegas, of the same block where she was stabbed, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Villegas was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, but she was pronounced dead at 6:28 p.m., according to police and the medical examiner's office.

A person is in custody and charges are pending in the attack, police said.
