March 15--A woman who was shot while riding in a taxi in Wicker Park is among at least two people wounded in shootings across the city early Sunday.
About 2:45 a.m., the 35-year-old woman was inside a cab in the 1200 block of North Damen Avenue when someone fired shots from an alleyway. The shots went through the cab's passenger door and hit the woman in the arm, police said.
The shooter was believed to have fled northbound down an alleyway on Damen Avenue. The injured woman was taken to Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center just a few blocks away where her condition was stabilized, police said.
Following the shooting, police taped off a section of the Shell gas station on the northeast corner of Damen Avenue and Division Street as well as a stretch of alleyway behind the gas station. Some people still filing out of bars on Division Street paused to watch as police investigated the scene.
Police do not believe the woman was an intended target in the shooting. Further details were not immediately available.
Hours later, a man walked into Mercy Hospital and Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his left thigh, police said.
The man, who is in his 20s, was shot about 5:30 a.m. Sunday. Police were still confirming the location of where the man was shot but said he was listed in good condition.
Saturday saw at least five people wounded by gunfire, police said.
