July 10--A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy shot and wounded a woman in east Pasadena on Friday morning after an altercation in which she fired at the deputy, authorities said.
The woman's wounds were not considered life-threatening and she was taken to a hospital, said Sgt. Steven Ruiz of the sheriff's Temple Station. She was not identified.
The woman's husband called authorities about 10:44 a.m. to report she had medical issues and was armed with a gun, Sheriff's Lt. Holly Francisco said.
When deputies went to the home in the 3300 block of Yorkshire Road in unincorporated east Pasadena, they found the woman holding a gun and standing outside. At some point, the deputies were involved in an altercation with the woman, Ruiz said.
The woman, he said, fired a shot at a deputy. The deputy returned fire, shooting twice and striking the woman, Ruiz said.
The deputy was not injured.
Friday's shooting was the seventh involving law enforcement in Los Angeles County this week and the fifth by L.A. County sheriff's deputies.
This year there have been 22 shootings by L.A. County sheriff's deputies, including seven in which people were killed, according to department records.
