BRIEF: Woman riding wheelchair on five-lane highway hit, killed by motorist

April 13--A 30-year-old Rosamond woman who was riding an electric wheelchair in a southbound lane of the 14 Freeway was struck and killed by a motorist, authorities said Sunday.

The woman, identified as Jennifer Jones, was riding in the right lane of the freeway near Avenue J-2 in Lancaster about 7:53 p.m. Saturday when she was struck by a motorist, L.A. County sheriff's Sgt. Sean Boog said.

Jones was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sheriff's officials are investigating why Jones was riding an electric wheelchair on the busy five-lane highway after sundown.

The driver of the vehicle, whose name was not released, said she did not see Jones, Boog said.

The motorist immediately contacted authorities and remained at the scene after investigators arrived, Boog said.
