BRIEF: Woman mauled by dog in Little Village

Nov. 12--A 34-year-old woman was mauled by a dog in the Little Village neighborhood Thursday morning, according to authorities.

She was in an apartment in the 2300 block of South Whipple Street when the dog attacked her about 11 a.m. It's not clear what may have provoked the attack.

She suffered arm, neck and face wounds and is in critical condition at Mount Sinai Hospital.

The dog was taken into custody by Animal Care and Control. Police said the dog was the family pet and the attack occurred in their home.
