BRIEF: Woman killed, man injured in car shooting in downtown L.A.

Nov. 08--A woman was killed and a man injured when a gunman fired multiple rounds into a car in downtown Los Angeles early Saturday, police said.

The shooting occurred about 2 a.m. at South Alameda and East 14th streets, near the 10 Freeway, police said.

The female victim, described only as being in her mid-20s, was pronounced dead at a hospital, said Officer Sally Madera of the Los Angeles Police Department. The male driver, also in his mid-20s, suffered a wound to one of his hands, said Lt. Gina Holmstrom.

After the shooting, the driver of the victims' car drove to South Hoover and West 43rd streets, just south of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, where they were noticed by authorities.

There has been one other homicide at South Alameda and East 14th in the last year, according to The Times' Homicide Report.

Vincent Vasquez, a 26-year-old, was shot and killed about 3 a.m. May 4, a Sunday. Officers found Vasquez after responding to a call of gunshots fired at a parking lot.
