Woman killed during crash in Plainfield

Dec. 17--An Aurora woman was killed Dec. 11 in Plainfield after her vehicle struck a box truck, police said.

The incident took place at about 8:15 a.m. on Ridge Road, near the intersection with Johnson Road, in Kendall County, according to police.

A preliminary investigation indicates the woman, 37-year-old Nicole Neumann, was driving north in a Hyundai Santa Fe when it crossed the center line and struck the southbound truck, according to police and the Kane County Coroner's Office.

Neumann, the Santa Fe's lone occupant, was transported to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora after the Plainfield Fire Department extricated her from the vehicle.

Neumann succumbed to her injuries a short time after arriving at the hospital and was pronounced dead at 9:20 a.m., according to the coroner's office.

The driver of the truck was not injured, but a passenger in the truck complained of minor back pain and was taken to Copley.

Ridge Road between Illinois Route 126 and Plainfield/Oswego Road was closed for about five hours after the collision as authorities investigated the crash, police said.

An autopsy was performed Dec. 12, and authorities are awaiting the results of toxicology tests before a cause of death is officially released.
