BRIEF: Woman hurt after being struck by stolen car

Oct. 13--A woman was hurt after a man struck her with a car while trying to flee police Monday evening on the Southwest Side, police said.

Police officers tried to stop a white SUV in the 5700 block of South Western Avenue around 9:45 p.m. after they checked the car's plates and determined it was stolen, said Chicago Police Department spokesman Officer Hector Alfaro.

But the car took off northbound on Western and officers lost sight of it, Alfaro said.

Shortly after, the car hit a woman, in her 30s, who was crossing the street in the 4900 block of South Western. The car then crashed into a nearby building on the 4700 block of Western, police said.

The female pedestrian was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Her condition stabilized, Alfaro said.

Police officers took the driver of the white SUV into custody, and charges were pending against him early Tuesday.
