BRIEF: Woman found in burning Southwest Side garage identified

Jan. 26--A woman whose body was found in a burning garage on the Southwest Side last week has been identified as a 32-year-old South Sider who lived about 3 miles from the scene, officials said Monday.

According to the Cook County medical examiner's office, the woman was Cherry Wilson, of the 5200 block of South May Street in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:45 p.m. Jan. 19, according to the medical examiner.

The garage was in the 6600 block of South Campbell Avenue in the Marquette Park neighborhood, officials said. The woman's body was in the garage, with extensive burns, authorities said.

The medical examiner's office performed an autopsy on the woman's body last week but did not reach a determination as to the cause and manner of her death. There has been no change in that determination since last week.

Police said last week they were conducting a death investigation into the incident. There was no additional news on the status of that investigation today.
