Victim of Bartlett house fire identified as 95-year-old woman

Aug. 24--DuPage County authorities on Monday identified a woman who died in a fire Saturday morning at a Bartlett home.

The DuPage County coroner's office said the woman was Maura Wills, 95, according to a news release.

Firefighters responded about 10:30 a.m. to an alarm at a house in the 500 block of Litchfield Lane of the northwest suburb and found the house in heavy flames, heat and smoke, according to the Bartlett Fire Protection District.

A bystander told firefighters an elderly woman was still in the home. Firefighters found the unconscious woman after they went inside, according to the fire department.

"Fire crews aggressively attacked the fire and quickly found the unconscious victim," fire Chief Michael Falese said in a statement.

The fire began in a bedroom of the home and had spread to the second floor and attic by the time firefighters arrived, according to the fire department. Firefighters had the fire under control in about two hours.

Ten neighboring departments helped with the fire, which caused an estimated $1 million in damage, according to the fire department.

Investigators do not think the fire was suspicious.

The home had working smoke detectors, according to the fire department.
