BRIEF: Woman, 58, dies after being struck by SUV on Northwest Side

Jan. 17--A 58-year-old woman who was hit by an SUV on the Northwest Side on Friday morning has died, police said.

The incident happened about 6:25 a.m. in the 3600 block of West Addison Street, outside the Blue Line's Addison station, police said.

The woman, identified as Maria Hernandez, was pronounced dead at 6:50 a.m. at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center after being taken there in critical condition, said police spokesman Officer Jose Estrada and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Hernandez, of the 3800 block of West Addison Street, apparently lived within two blocks of where the accident happened, according to the medical examiner's office.

The 41-year-old driver of the 2014 Dodge Journey SUV was driving northbound from the expressway off ramp. She turned westbound on Addison and struck the pedestrian who was crossing northbound on Addison on the crosswalk, said police spokeswoman Officer Janel Sedevic.

The woman stayed on the scene.

As of Friday afternoon, no citations were issued as a result of the incident, Estrada said.
