Feb. 29--A woman was killed Sunday night after being struck by a car as she apparently tried to cross Glen Ellyn Road in Glendale Heights, according to police.
The dead pedestrian was identified as Jesus Cruz, 59, of Glendale Heights.
According to Glendale Heights police, witnesses said Cruz may have been attempting to walk across the road at its intersection with Lynn Court at 8:26 p.m. when she was struck by a southbound Volkswagen Passat being driven by a 50-year-old Wheaton resident.
Cruz suffered severe injuries and was taken to Adventist Glen Oaks Hospital in Glendale Heights, where she died, police said.
Deputy Police Chief Steve Ewoldt said Monday that there is no traffic light at the intersection, which is near a small apartment complex.
The driver of the Passat has not been ticketed, he said. The accident remains under investigation by Glendale Heights police and the DuPage County sheriff's police.
