2nd fatality reported after Christmas Day crash in Northbrook

Dec. 26--A 91-year-old woman and a 93-year-old man have died and three others were hurt during a two cars crashed in Northbrook on Christmas Day, according to authorities.

At approximately 6:15 p.m. Thursday, Cook County Sheriff's Police were notified of a two-vehicle injury crash in the 1600 block of Sanders Road in unincorporated Northbrook, according to a statement from the Cook County sheriff's office.

When officers arrived, they found two unresponsive occupants in a 2006 silver Chrysler 300. The 91-year-old female driver and the 93-year-old male passenger, both of Northbrook, were taken to area hospitals and both later died, the statement said.

The 93-year-old man's name was not being made public yet, according the a sheriff's spokeswoman and the Lake County coroner's office.

The woman was identified as Betty Jorgensen, of the 1800 block of Mission Hills Road, who was taken to Glenbrook Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 11:56 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Two more people were in critical condition and one person was in stable condition after the accident, according to a statement from Tim Smeltzer, deputy chief of operations with the Northbrook Fire Department.

Nearby fire departments from Wheeling and Glenview helped Northbrook's fire department with responding to the crash.

The accident is under the investigation by the Cook County Sheriff's Office.
