BRIEF: Woman critically injured in South Side hit-and-run

March 13--A woman critically injured in a hit-and-run accident in the Englewood neighborhood Thursday afternoon, police said.

The incident happened about 1:45 p.m., said Chicago police spokesman Officer Thomas Sweeney. The woman, age 22, was hit near 5900 South Halsted Street, police said.

The woman was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was in critical condition.

Initial police information that the driver stayed on scene and was speaking with police was incorrect. The man drove to 5300 South Union Avenue, where he was taken into custody, said Police spokeswoman Officer Bari Lemmon.

A witness told WGN-TV that the woman had been coming from a nearby laudromat when she was hit by a car, which dragged for some distance and then drove off.
