BRIEF: Woman, 74, hit by truck on Near North Side

Jan. 12--Charges are pending for a trucker who hit a 74-year-old woman, critically injuring her Tuesday on Chicago's Near North Side.

The woman was walking in the 1100 block of North LaSalle Street when a truck that was trying to make a turn hit her about noon, said Officer Nicole Trainor, a spokeswoman for the Chicago police.

Firefighters performed CPR to try and revive her and she was rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, according to the Chicago Fire Department and police.

Trainor said the driver of the truck was arrested and charges were pending.

It was not clear what authorities were going to charge him with.
