BRIEF: Woman, 63, killed after West Side car crash

Dec. 08--A 63-year-old woman has died following a car crash in the city's Humboldt Park neighborhood Sunday morning.

Bessie English, of the 900 block of North Waller Avenue, was pronounced dead at 9:22 a.m. at Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

About 7:50 a.m., English was driving a 1993 Ford Escort eastbound in the 2700 block of West Division Street when she was hit head-on by a car traveling westbound, said Officer Ron Gaines, a Chicago Police spokesman.

Two people fled from the crash on foot, Gaines said. As of Sunday night, police were searching for the two, and no one had been arrested.

English suffered a possible heart attack during the crash, police said. She was taken to St. Mary Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead, authorities said.
