BRIEF: Woman, 56, fatally stabbed in Ashburn

Jan. 06--A 56-year-old woman was killed Monday night in the Ashburn neighborhood on the city's Southwest Side.

About 9:44 p.m., police responded to a call in the 3500 block of West 77th Place, said Officer Ron Gaines, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.

Officers found a 56-year-old woman inside a home on the block who had been stabbed, police said. The woamn, who was pronounced dead on the scene at 10:11 p.m., was identified as Damita Collins, of the address where her body was found, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Gaines said the woman had been stabbed during a domestic incident but could not immediately provide more details.
